:: Chicago July, 2004 ::
I've got lots of family in Chicago, but I don't get up there too often. It was so nice to get away from the Florida humidity and heat. It was breezy and 70-ish most of the time. Most of the time was spent with family, but I had a chance to perform with jazz pianist/vocalist Judy Roberts. Also got to see the wild and crazy shenanigans of Lonie Walker at her bar, the Underground Wonder Bar.
Oh, and I fell in love with a Tiny Little Pirate (a.k.a. Tiny L.P.). He inspired a new song I'm working on, "We Didn't Bother". While the song itself is heavy and touching in its way, it's based on an imaginary love affair between myself and the pirate. Too much free time you might say, but the song is very sweet, and I will be posting the mp3 to my solo project page when it's complete. Here are the lyrics along with photos of my tiny little pirate.
"We Didn't Bother"
I never knew it could happen this way. I never knew it could turn out this way.
Our days on the island bore plenty of fruit. And we didn't bother, we didn't bother, with love, with love.
A ship came for us, and we sailed way. And into a city, we began our new life. I can't start the engine, but you have your sword. And we can't be bothered....with rules.
So urban and lonesome, we took to the road. The gas tank is empty, but we carry the load. We've run out of water; the ground is so cold. But we can't be bothered...with time.
I've left you behind and these words linger on my mind. I'm walking away; there was nothing that I could do. Our days on the island were the best of our lives, And we didn't bother...with love.
